Some Internship Experience
Some of my Event Involvement
Yelp’s Pre-Grand Opening Party at Cupcake Royale (Capitol Hill location). I got to check out the location before construction was completed, help out with prepping goodie bags, and manage the door/guest list for about an hour. There is a lot of foot traffic on that street, so that also involved giving out coupons and talking with many of the curious people walking by.

Yelp Seattle Elite Event: Othello at Intiman Theater, Elemental Importers reception. Mostly I just helped out with set-up and photos. Ashley and Ryan of Elemental Importers and Kathleen from Intiman Theater are all so great!

Yelp Seattle’s Taste of Georgetown event. I didn’t have time to take pictures because I spent a big chunk of the day setting up and the evening working to make sure most people didn’t get outside with their alcoholic beverages (as per the building owner’s wishes). I discovered just how stressful and fulfilling working at such an event can be.

Writing Sample: This Weekly Yelp didn’t get published due to timing, but it was good practice and I really enjoyed writing it.
Hot Spots to Cool Down!
The people in Seattle have been experiencing an unusual need lately: To be somewhere that’s got air conditioning! Thankfully the Yelpers have been busy Talking about what those places are, so there is no need to take your chances!
Have you ever had moments like Grant G where you found yourself thinking “why aren’t there more coffee/waffle houses?” Perhaps you haven’t been to Aster Coffee Lounge before? Besides the waffles, Brooke S believes the coffee-loving crowd would love to “find their granitas somewhere other than hwy 99” and John L says that “any place that serves coffee and beer is rad” in his book. If you’re looking for something else, perhaps you could head over to Fresh Flours in Phinney Ridge for “coffee, pastries, quiche, and/or a sandwich”. They keep you cool AND Brendan M says that their “green tea azuki muffins are as tasty as ever!” If not, maybe the Queen Anne Caffe Ladro is where it’s at for you. Cindy W claims that she would “die for a French Vanilla Soda” (here they are called “Italian Sodas with cream”) while Sara A goes for the “consistently good Americanos” and “THE BEST apple pie.”
Perhaps what you REALLY want is to relax and enjoy a cool drink? Angela V suggests the Taphouse Grill because they have an “EXCELLENT alcohol selection” while being “a nice escape from the heat and chaos above.” If you’d like a movie with that, you may want to follow Jen P’s example and head to the Central Cinema to take advantage of the “a/c, movies, good food, AND beer!” If you’re looking for Chinese food with your drink, Chen’s Village just might hit the spot. Emily T says that “the food, drinks and service are divine” even though “the building itself may be rough around the edges.” All of those sound like a grand plan for a hot OR chilly day!
If you’re feeling slightly more studious (or need to pick up a fun new read), Bailey-Coy Books in Capitol Hill could be a worthwhile stop! Not only do they have a/c, but Alyson H “loves this place” because they have “an amazing rotating selection of stationery from independent artists” as well as books with “little note cards describing employee picks of the moment.” If you’re not looking to spend any money but want to cool down with some books/computers (and perhaps your kids), you might pay the Central Library a visit. Melissa J says it’s “a fantastic, free way to spend an afternoon” while Shirley Y takes “advantage of their Holds system” for all her “book club and music needs.”
