November 2016 Birchbox

1. Phyto Phytokératine Repairing Mask: I love hair masks! This sample is a good size so I’m really glad their system picked it for me. Is there any chance I’ll buy this? Yes!
2. Coastal Scents® Blush & Bronzer Palette: I don’t normally use blush and bronzer so I am probably going to give this sample away. I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten a lot of their products (mostly eye shadow) in boxes but haven’t tried anything because I don’t normally use eye shadow. Is there any chance I’ll buy this? Nope.
3. Benefit Cosmetics the POREfessional: Matte Rescue Invisible-Finish Mattifying Gel: I like the Benefit samples that I’ve tried so far so I’m really happy to have another product to try! Is there any chance I’ll buy this? Probably not.
4. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye: I have a few different eye creams thanks to subscription boxes and don’t frequently use them. This item sounds slightly different and easy to use, though, so I’ll try adding it to my evening routine. Is there any chance I’ll buy this? Probably not.
5. Oribe Superfine Hairspray: I’ve heard great things about this brand and like some of their other products. I don’t use hairspray, however, so this sample will probably go to a friend who gets most of my hairspray samples. Is there any chance I’ll buy this? Nope.

I’ve been a Birchbox subscriber since November 2012 (4 years! whoa!) so I am obviously a Birchbox fan. I’m a little bit less of a fan now that box sample feedback doesn’t get me about $5 in Birchbox.com credit every month but I still like many of the samples they send so I’ll probably continue getting their box.

August 2016 Birchbox

stila Matte About You Liquid Lipstick Trio: I love lip products so I’m glad this one was included in my box!

Living proof.® No Frizz Nourishing Oil: I haven’t gotten to try this yet because I have a few other hair samples to get through first (yes, I’m this behind!) but I’m happy to have it because it looks like a nice product.

HUM Nutrition Raw Beauty Green Superfood Powder: Food in a Birchbox! FINALLY! They used to frequently send little food samples but then stopped. Guess they had some quality control issues or something like that. I thought it was interesting this sample had a health focus because in the past I usually received chocolate from them.

Acure Organics Coconut & Argan Oil Cleansing Towelettes: I love these!! I actually got the full-size version as an add-on item several weeks before this sample arrived. I’m happy to have the smaller pack because it takes up less space in my bag.

Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow: I believe I’ve tried and liked Marcelle products before but I don’t usually use BB cream so I gave this sample to a friend.

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle – not from the August box – I’m not sure when I got this sample from (probably) Birchbox but I’m glad it appeared again (3rd time?) because I love it!

I still love Birchbox because they have sent me a lot of awesome samples over the years but I’m a bit sad about their recent points program changes. I really liked getting about $30 of products (usually awesome liquid soap, shampoo, conditioner) for just a few bucks (and however many minutes it took me to complete the sample surveys) every 6 months or so!

February 2016 Popsugar Must Have Box

Can’t get my photos to load right now… will probably replace the image later. (This is Popsugar’s image.)

Must Have Beauty

Beautycounter Nourishing Cleansing Balm: I love this item! Nice packaging and I love that there’s a muslin cloth included.

Victoria’s Secret Coconut Milk Hydrating Body Lotion: It looks like a nice lotion and I’m glad it’s a big bottle. I’m not really a fan of most lotions, however, so I gave this one to a friend.

Must Have Fashion

Tilo Heart Print Scarf: Loooove this scarf! The little hearts are cute and perfect for February.

JewelryStorm Endless Arrow Ring: People have told me I have small hands/fingers and this ring only fits me as a midi ring, so I’m not sure it fits like a normal ring for many adults. I like it because it’s cute and it sparkles. :)

Must Have Home

Fringe Studio Hello Beautiful Square Tray: Super cute tray! I love it and am glad they chose it for this box.

Must Have Food

Foodstirs Heart Cookie Mix:  I love that Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy!) is involved in this project (co-founder!) and that the package was super cute. I had to give it away, however, because it wasn’t gluten-free.

Special Extra: Victoria’s Secret Sports Socks: I love these!

Special Extra: Victoria’s Secret Reward Card: I don’t normally shop at Victoria’s Secret but I’ll probably be able to find something for about $20. Maybe something fitness related! ;)

Life Updates! Engaged, ClassPass Ambassador, iPhone 6S, Tahoe.

I guess life got a little bit crazy in September (last post: 9/1)!

The things that come to mind:

1. Nels and I got engaged!!! Screen Shot 2016-03-04 at 10.13.11 AM

2. ClassPass asked me to join their new Ambassador team! (Join now and save $25)Screen Shot 2016-03-04 at 10.12.30 AM.png

3. I got the new iPhone 6S! This may seem silly but it’s a big thing for someone who loves her phone. ;)

4. Nels and I visited family near Lake Tahoe!Screen Shot 2016-03-04 at 10.12.03 AM.png

WHOA!

A lot of other things have happened since, and the biggest is probably the end of my contract with the mobile advertising company that was my main client for the last two and a half years. I’m very thankful for the experience and love the team I worked with, but I feel like the contract ended at the perfect time for me because I’m ready to focus on other projects. Monday, Feb. 29, was my last day and this past week was absolutely crazy. I’m hoping things get a little more peaceful because I wasn’t expecting things to stay at about the same level of crazy when I said good-bye to one of my jobs!

Anyway… a few goals for this blog:

If you’d like to check out what I’m up to today (and chat!), here are a few places where I’m super active: Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat (just started!), and Yelp (mostly check-ins, photos, events… need to start frequently writing reviews again).

BeanBox Seattle Artisan Coffee Subscription Box

More Seattle love! I’m not exactly sure how I discovered this box, but I’m happy they exist because I love: Seattle, small businesses, and coffee. One of my favorite things is that they’ve been visiting local offices and doing coffee tastings. I hear one of those companies added Bean Box to their employee perk program. It’s also pretty neat that they ship within 1-2 days of roasting!

This box falls into a special category because they decided to send me a free box because I’ve been a sharing and retweeting a lot of their posts. Buying a couple gift boxes during the holidays may have also helped. ;)

I would normally subscribe to boxes I get this excited about, but that hasn’t actually happened in this case. Why? Simple. I work from coffee shops almost every day and never drink coffee at home. Don’t even own a coffee pot.

It might take me a while to actually try these beans because I need to find a place to grind the beans and make the coffee, but I’m still happy they decided to send me a box because it means I’ll actually get to check out some of the roasters they feature. I’m thinking it’ll be a friend’s house or office. (“Friend’s office” isn’t an odd choice for me because I work remotely and occasionally visit different offices and co-working spaces.)

Pricing: They now have three options! $20 for a box like this, $20 for one 12oz bag per month, or $34 per month for one 12oz bag every two weeks. If you go for one of the big bag options, you also get to pick: mix OR your favorite roast – light, light and medium, medium, medium and dark, or dark.

Roasters featured in this shipment:

Conduit Coffee Company

Seattle Coffee Works

Slate Coffee Roasters

Seven Coffee Roasters

Hazel Lane’s Austin, TX box (August 2014)

I was so happy to see this box on my doorstep a few weeks ago! I love Hazel Lane boxes because the founders seem pretty awesome and I love receiving cute goodies from different cities.

I’ve never been to Austin, but I used to work for a start-up that had an office there and frequently spoke with co-workers who worked from that office. Seems like a cool and interesting city!

Screen Shot 2014-09-26 at 1.08.14 PM

I absolutely LOVE the Monorail Studio print! I don’t have much art in my home, so new pieces are always welcome. The saying on this one is also cute… and I like that it’s yellow. I don’t have enough yellow in my home. The company also seems like a company I’m happy to support (and know about). Big win!

The Austin Tie Dye Co dinner napkins also make me very happy because they look nice and are super useful. I like receiving useful things in boxes.

The Stubbs Spice Rub will be a good gift to someone who cooks/grills a lot more than we do. I’m happy this spice rub is gluten-free… maybe it’ll go to someone who will use it to grill some meat for my boyfriend (and me)! ;)

I think the VINCA laser-cut acrylic earrings are cute… but sadly their presence in my box made me realize I never told the Hazel Lane ladies that I don’t have pierced ears. Oops. Thankfully they know now and it looks like I have a couple friends who are interested in the earrings. Since receiving this box, I have enjoyed looking at the other items available on VINCA’s website. I really like their food (taco! burger! pretzel!) pieces… and the animals (fox! octopus! Boston Terrier face! squirrel!)… and the different organs/bones! Those are not really my style, though. If I picked something from their site, it would probably be… something with a fox.

Bonus (received separately): A little Lights Out candle (spiceberry chai)! It smells like… a chai apple pie. I am so looking forward to burning it!! I believe some subscribers received this as a “thanks” for pre-paying 3+ months. I haven’t done that yet (been paying monthly instead), but Sam and Ashley said they wanted to send a little gift to thank me for being a super fan.

Next up… Charleston, SC! Can’t wait to see what they picked this time! I like that they mentioned House of Cards when they first announced the city because my boyfriend and I watched the first two seasons last month. :)

My August 2014 MakrBox

IMG_1015Hemp washcloth from Cusp Natural Products (Seattle) (~$9): I really like this item because I’ve been looking for new kitchen things. For a moment I considered using this as a body washcloth, but I think the kitchen suggestion sounds better.

Alchemy Goods pouch (Seattle) ($6… because it looks like $18 gets you three): I don’t know what I will use this for, but I like that it’s bigger than other pouches I have received from other boxes. Variety is good.

Schmidt’s Deodorant – Lavender Sage (Portland) ($9): More good natural deodorant (that works)!! WIN! I like that the MakrBox team included the full-size jar because the full-size jar comes with a mini applicator. The sample I got in a different box didn’t come with the applicator, which was a bit frustrating.

A very useful box… can’t wait to see what I get in September. I love supporting local makers!
